I’m Dylan, 16, and I’m looking for a car. I’m planning on getting either a Mazda 3 or a Ford Focus and I’m using every rebate/discount I can find, including the Obama new car rebate thing. Thanks.

If you go to you will find tips on getting the best price. When you figure what is fair, add the sales tax for your area and then see what dealer will accept your offer. They will try to add all sorts of stuff to raise the price and add Prep fees and other junk. Be ready to walk out of the dealership if they do this. They will meet your price if you stand firm.

You get less of a deal on more popular (aka more dependable) models. I do know that the end of the year is the very best time to get deals.
I know you probably want to do this in your own, but I highly recommend taking a savvy adult with you. Read up on bargaining for new cars…there are several books and websites. Don’t get in a hurry, take your time and if try to pressure by saying “someone else wants this car” or “the offer expires today”, walk away. Make your best deal before even talking about financing! Our credit union will beat any interest rate we are quoted by 1%, so check around for financing!
I know you didn’t ask but i’ve been screwed more than once on a car purchase and want to let you know they are sharks!
I didn’t know there was an Obama new car rebate??
